Message from the Chief

Michael Fleming, Chief of Police

After more than two decades of service as a Nicholasville Police Officer, it is my distinct pleasure and honor to guide this agency as your new Chief of Police.

I am humbled to follow in the footsteps of Chief Barry Waldrop and Chief Todd Justice.  They are to be credited with our organization’s statewide reputation as a model for other Law Enforcement agencies to follow, which includes a fulfilling and progressive work environment for our officers.

We are uncompromisingly committed to aiding everyone in our community with respect, fairness, and compassion.

I am incredibly proud of our officers and civilian personnel.  The members of our agency are a credit to the profession, this department, and the City of Nicholasville.

We are committed to a standard of service that enables officers’ ability to stay focused, build relationships with residents, carry out tasks, and remain committed to serving and protecting all.

I remain encouraged by each officer’s initiative to not only pursue “routine police work”, but to integrate themselves into the community and invest in people.  I am delighted when seeing our officers get out and play basketball with neighborhood kids or help change a tire on the side of the road for a stranded motorist.  It is apparent that they adhere to the tenants of community-oriented policing and hold decency and courtesy as core values.

My plan for my tenure as your Chief is to continue to foster the growth of Community Programs, including the previously established Copsicle Program, Citizens Police Academy, as well as the School Resource Officers and DARE.

We will continue to pursue new and innovative ways to connect with the people in our community, to humanize our officers so they can better relate to those they serve, and to strengthen our relationships and partnerships with other public and private agencies devoted to making Nicholasville a desirable place to live and work.

As your Chief of Police, I will always be available to listen to the needs of our community and will ensure that our department maintains the highest standards of professional service.

I also invite you to stay connected with us by following us on Facebook.

Thank you,

Michael Fleming
Chief of Police
